Weather: Snow, wind, hail, below freezing weather, snow, snow, and snow, today it rained all day.
Next week, cold and snow chances most days, plus some rain. I am going to be really glad when it warms up a bit. Currently, heater fuel is at $30. a day for just under 24 hrs., so people are cold. And, selfishly, I'd like Thyri and I to have nice weather on our birthdays - 4 days apart.
Driving has been hazardous, if not impossible. The 101 corridor was closed from one county to the next, and people where I am couldn't get into town, yeslet anywhere else.
There have been many accidents, some involving big trucks, since Wednesday. Plus, trees and lines came down all over the place, sometimes on vehicles on the hwy. At one point, there were up to 300 cars stuck on 101 between our town and a town north of us. I hope that they had blankets, food, and water. Still, it is too cold to be stuck in your vehicle.
Krypto loves a short time in the snow, and like many dogs in the area, enjoys catching snowballs and playing in the snow. But, then he starts lifting one foot after another. I assume that he's realizing that snow underfoot is cold, and he's ready to come in.
As you can imagine, I can't do much in these temperatures in the house. I don't know why my nail beds hurt so much when it's really cold, but Dh's hands are painfully cold too, then we don't feel them and have to warm them.
Wednesday it was a rather light snow when they went to his dental appt. That night, it snowed hard and they wouldn't have been able to get into town after that.
They only examined the mouth, then set an appt. to work on it for the 15th. Really? His Dr. doesn't want him on 3 more wks. of antibiotics. So, we are to call for cancellations.
The dentist, a very young woman, probably just out of school, was kind of clueless about several things. She even wrote his heart problem and medications down incorrectly. We will go with another dentist if we can for the work.
Then, the person who did the x-rays set it up all wrong. He got hit in the bad tooth, and the things that goes around your head smacked him in the head...hard. He was miserable, and not the happiest camper that I've ever seen that night. The best dentist that I've ever been to was in that office, but some time ago. Now it looks more like a training school for dentists, but not in a good way.
The other day we sent Ds home with the small generator, just in case, and sure enough, their power went out. A few nights ago, Thyri got on phone to tell me about their brown out's before it finally went off. She was talking quite loudly, and very fast. I couldn't get a word in edgewise. Those kinds of things make her feel insecure. And, because of a book that they read in the library several months ago, whenever she talks about power outtages, she concludes with Ka-Boom!! If she says that, then I know that she means that the electricity has gone off, even though it didn't make that noise. Their electricity just came back on tonight, after being out for 3 days.
There was a helicopter yesterday, a large one, flying over the house. It literally made the house vibrate.
It reminded me of the big ones during fires... Ds said (he has an app that shows planes and helicopters here...type, destination, etc.) the it was flying at something like 1,700', was large like I thought, told me the type, etc. Apparently it was a private contractor for PG&E.
I said that it was really low sounding for being 1,700'. He then said, "Mom, you're at more than 1,400'." Oh. I hadn't thought about that. I thought that they meant above the ground, not above sea level. I realize now that, of course they mean above sea level. The cold is affecting my brain! Well, it's a good excuse anyway!
What had happened was that, right where the hwy meets my road, 3 poles were down, and people were out of electricity north of me quite a ways.
We learned, from the lineman, that the lines that they use are bare copper. No wonder large birds that accidentally touch 2 of them that are side by side don't survive. They look dark because of the metal patina that forms.
We apparently have a couple of geese that are hanging around. We hear them over the house each morning.
Well, I think that I remembered most everything from the past few days.
How was your week?
