Our weather took a 2 day break, and just got colder yet. According to my forecast, we will have rain/snow (that's how they wrote it.) today through Wednesday, with some winds, and lows in the 20's. Then, Thursday and Friday we'll have showers. What does that mean for my birthday, the next day? No idea. They are not calling for a lot of accumulation, so maybe it won't block my signal for T.V. and internet. Hopefully, anyway.
Ds and a friend in the generator business came up with an idea for the generator. I took a leap of faith, and part of the bill money I should have spent, and bought the part. Yesterday, Ds installed it with Dh, and it *may* be that I'll be able to cook without losing 2ce the gas that I have been. If that's true, which we'll know by the end of the weekend, I can slow down on how much generator gas I buy, and maybe it will solve a couple of it's other problems. Here's hoping.
Not a lot goes on here lately. We sit and watch T.V. if it's working, and read, staying under covers. We aren't able to do yard work - everything's covered in snow still, we only have an hour or two to work with the cold. Generally, we choose to take care of critters and prep food.
I ran out of my staple, organic masa. Generally, I buy a huge bag once every year or so. The deal on a sack is much better. Also, it meets the criteria for free shipping, and the shipping is expensive, so I avoid it by ordering the amount to make it free.
Well, I was down to a ziploc baggy worth, and took another leap. First the gen. part, then the masa. (I eat some most days in one form or another.)
But, there were no large sacks of it, and no yellow masa, which is what I use. They did have white and blue, though. After jumping through some hoops, I got the last 5 small bags of the white, which is all they had, and 2 bags of the blue. That's 15 lbs. shy of what I normally get, but beggers can't be choosers. I am out of mine here now, and don't know when the new ones will arrive. Soon, I hope. I would like to use it as a thickener in a few days, not to mention making one of my 'breads' and cornbread.
I did pay more than the bulk sack that I've gotten for years, but there are upsides, if you want to look at the glass as being 1/2 full. One is that, as long as it tastes and acts like the usual yellow, it's packaged in 7 smaller bags. I've never had a problem with staleness before, but I guess that it's even less likely packaged in smaller, sealed bags.
Now I hope that all of my brave spending has left me enough to go to the ranch and get some meat. Birthday dinner, and all that! Well, we need meat period, but I'm hoping for a tasty dinner that night in particular.
That's mostly what we do on birthdays here...have a dinner that we really want, and maybe watch a movie. We definitely know how to party!
But, we'll see...bills first. At least I knowingly wrecked my budget. I made my choices and will live with them.
Thyri's birthday is in 3 days. She doesn't have the concept of 'favorite meal' yet, but she does have the concept of birthday cake. Her mom, you may remember, follows a thing that people do for a theme each year. This, being her 3rd birthday, is called Three & Free which is animal themed.
She asked for a pink cake, and they will put jungle animals on it to decorate. To make it pink, Ds is making it strawberry (by using powdered, freeze-dried strawberries for flavor.) and adding a little food coloring to make the cake and frosting pink. I'm sure that she'll love it.
Their electricity has been off for 8 days, and the msg. that they get from PG&E apologizes for the inconvenience each day, but says that they can't predict when it will be back on.
Well, I need to feed Uhura to be able to cont. typing. Her new place is under my mouse arm and hand, unless we are sleeping. She's acting differently since we lost Mamou 11 wks. ago. She's more of a homebody, which I'm sure she'll get over as it warms up, she's more glued to us, and she's jumpier.
Well, off to distract her! How was your week?
