While the weather has been in the 30's at night this week, we have had a couple of rain-free, snow-free days. Most of the days this week were 40's or 50's, but 2 of the days got into the 70's. Not for long, but it was welcome. It looks like the rain will be back beginning tonight, and every day through at least Thursday.
It's been nice to dry out a little, which my chickens agree with. We didn't get a lot done anyway, though, as Dh has been suffering with his dental problem. He's been on high doses of antibiotics, and other types of medications, which have barely been keeping the problem at bay. Yesterday he had oral surgery, which didn't go very well, and he will need to go again.
I decided, leading up to my birthday, to rejoin postcard trading. I joined, apparently, in 2013, and had put myself on pause from it.
I am allowed 12 cards at a time, and decided to go with that because it takes a long while to receive cards, especially these days. I haven't found all of my postcards yet...I had them organized in photo holders...but did find some, which is what made me decide to go ahead with it. I also was able to get my hands on some of my stamps, so I was ready to go.
My first trade (they choose for you.) is a nice sounding man in Germany who is bigtime into his family (wife, grown children, and grandchildren - one close to Thyri's age.), sports, cooking, and so forth. He lives on a nature preserve where some of the first Neanderthal bones were found.
The other 11 are from Finland, 2 from the Netherlands, 2 more from Germany, Japan, Serbia, Austria, Mexico, Guam, and England. They run a wide range of ages from ladies in their 60's or older, down to a girl I drew who is 20. Apparently, her father has traded postcards all her life, and during lockdown she decided to do it also. Oh, and quite a few of the people are animal lovers, plus have pets from dogs and cats, to canaries and rats. The lady from Japan has a JRT, another that I drew has a boxer and also non-pet hedgehogs in her garden.
Not only did I used to do this for myself, but when my dad passed away and mom was so sad, I decided to help her with it, too. She didn't use a computer, so I set up the exchanges, and sent Hollywood/L.A. postcards for her, making sure that the incoming ones went to her house so that she was always getting fun and interesting mail. Up to her passing.
I could have had her write them herself to send, but she became sick, and it's difficult to write enough on them to make them interesting, include the trading # that you receive, etc. It worked better the way that we did it. So, I still have some Hollywood/L.A. postcards, which one person already wants one of.
I discovered that I had even put pretty stamps on some of my postcards already. They are forever stamps, which works, though I may need to add a stamp still. I need to check the current international and domestic postage rates. I *think* that domestic mail, for a regular 1st class letter, has gone up to 63 cents.
Thyri was so cute when they took Dh to the dentist. She was concerned when he came back hurt...some blood, unable to speak normally, etc. But, she made sure to tell him, "Good job, Pop!"
"Pop" would have gladly tossed the dentist into the volcano at that point, but it's difficult not to feel better when a three year old is telling you what a good job you did.
Well, I think that I'd better rustle up some food. Dh can't eat regular food right now, so I'm working on something that he can eat.
How was your week?
