They are quite active. The Dh walks daily, and the wife uses a treadmill daily, etc. plus other things.
I remember when the Dh turned 70, but didn't remember how long ago that was. Apparently, he's now almost 80. And, his wife is 6 years older than he is, so 86 on her birthday. That's odd feeling when you met her when she was in her early 50's!
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, she decided to do what her Dh does, and walk outside, around town. Her Dh got a call from her, saying that she'd fallen, and needed help. She had slipped on wet ground, I gather.
They thought that she had just gotten bruised, but an EMT that happened to be there got her to the hospital, and her hip was broken.
They did surgery, and only needed to do a 1/2 hip replacement, which was good.
However, she couldn't form a complete sentence after her recent surgery. They said that she did not have a stroke, and said this:
“Her speech problems are likely the result of aphasia, which is the loss of ability to understand or express speech. This is not uncommon following surgery with anesthesia medications, lower oxygen levels, and other things. It will likely clear up gradually and she should fully recover.”
She can't go home for a few days yet, but she needs to be able to be cared for, and her Dh is pretty upset, as you can imagine.
Prayers and good thoughts for them both would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.
