Good Morning!
We had a much cooler week, with rain most days. It rained quite a bit on Friday. It looks like a dry week after Monday afternoon, though, with warmer temperatures during the day.
I got a little cooking for the freezer done this week. Not a lot, but every little bit counts.
Hira has changed over to a better food this week, but changing over really didn't agree with her intestines. Krypto changed over to his new food, 3 weeks ago, without a problem. But, even with a slower changeover, Hira has had an upset since changing. I assume it's the change, and not the food itself. We'll find out with time.
Our feverfew is up and looking good, and the Douglas Fir babies have some beautiful new growth coming out at their tips. We have 3 small ones that we keep trimmed to someday be Christmas trees. When they are trimmed, such as they were this week, I take the cuttings and bring them in. They smell delicious!
The 3 chicks are doing well at Ds's house. Thyri has changed her mind on the 2 brown leghorn names, so I will see what their names turn out to be, once they are ready to come here and join the flock. Meanwhile, I have name the Salmon Faverolle, Anabel.
The kittens that came from Hira's original home are doing well there, too. There are 3 kittens and a mother cat. The kittens, who are about 1-2 weeks from being old enough to go to new homes have fruit themed names: Peach, Kiwi, and Mango. There are 2 girls and a boy.
I will post an update on Hira this weekend. She's been here for 3 weeks now.
The hummingbirds are increasing in number daily, it seems like. They start eating once it's light enough to, and don't stop until it's almost too dusky to see them. I'm going to need more sugar!
A scary thing happened on Friday night. Dh took Krypto out for his last constitutional of the day, and Krypto started barking viciously at something, pulling Dh, and almost taking the two of them off the hillside. Dh looked, and there was a large tawny animal right below them. There's only one large, tawny animal in these parts, and that's a mountain lion. Well, a deer, but they don't have forward facing eyes.
We rarely see them. We've seen youngsters a couple of time, and once, about 20 or more years ago, a neighbor had a goat killed by one, but as for on my road, that's it. We've seen them on the highway a couple of times, but that's not the same thing.
I found that scary. Too close. I know of mountain lions who have attacked dogs...that happened last spring at the coast. The worst part is...the animal wasn't scared off by Krypto.
I'm trying to decide what we can do about this. Even though that small enclosure at the front that we put up when Hira arrived is only 10', I'm thinking that both dogs should go there for after-dark times out.
It's not perfect, nor full-proof, but it might help. Mind you, that dog on the coast was attacked during the day, but night seems like the most likely time to run into a lion, so we'll just have to go with my plan for now. I also want to call the county, and see if a trapper is something that they would consider sending out.
I've done some sorting this week, and have been organizing things in regular sized totes, notebooks, and small totes. The small totes are barely large enough to be called totes. More like 'containers.' Their length and widths are about magazine size, and they are only about 4" or so tall. But, perfect for keeping together stamps, various extra envelopes, felt pens, and so forth.
I've also been organizing some cords, like to devices. Every time I find one that's not marked, I take those little velcro dealys that wrap around them, and mark on them, so that I know what it's to. Especially things like charger cords. I wish that they would standardize them. They do a little more now than once upon a time, but I'm not talented like Ds. He can look at any cord and know what it goes to immediately. So, I mark them as I find them.
Well, it's time for me to settle down and read a little before bed. How was your week?
