We had a nice week, weather-wise, if somewhat warm. It was often in the high 70's during the day, then got to the 80's - 90's in the later afternoon. Because it's not summer, and the nights are still cool, we are comfortable during the day with a personal fan on tabletops. Because the house cools at night right now, the air that the fan moves around in the afternoon is cool. I wish that would be the case in July, and other hot months!
They say that the weather next week will be similar. No rain, no cold nights - just cool, and days in the upper 70's through high 80's.
We got the totes that ended up being tossed in the yard below moved up here, and Ds took the trash to the next town over. Unfortunately, they charge a lot more for a load than what we are used to paying, but we didn't really have a choice once there. Besides which, I wanted it gone.
The next thing will be to fill it with other things from down there. Hopefully, Ds will have some time. With this being the work season, he is all over the place working, most times 1-2 hrs. away, every day. These jobs couldn't start until April, and some are contracts with govt. entities which will continue through much of the summer.
Any good thoughts for us being able to get more gas, sooner than later, would be appreciated.
The kids got me a potted plant for Mother's Day. It's a purple daisy of some form, and I understand that Thyri chose it, and the pot. It does need repotting, though, so Dh said that he will give me a pot that hangs to transplant it into, and then he'll hang it on the fence. That should keep it safe from being walked on or eaten. Then, I'll put another plant, perhaps the garlic chives that need dividing, into the flower's pot. It's quite pretty.
We had an interesting critter week.
First, there was a hummingbird who landed on the feeder that was being carried to be washed and refilled. Last year we had a bold bird who landed on Dh the first day. It was either a Rufous, or Allen's. This one was the same breed. Same bird? I don't know.
Then, guess what was in our yard in the driveway? A Western Pond Turtle, sometimes now called the North-West Pond Turtle. We never see them up here, only down at the year-round creek, hanging out on logs.
They are the only native fresh water turtle in the state, and are becoming more scarce. They used to range from Canada down to Mexico, but now the farthest range north is S. Washington state. They were eaten in the gold rush days in 1849ish, and canned for terrapin soup for the east coast. They were even fed to hogs.
They run from 4 1/2" - 8 1/2", and this one was 6 3/4", length of shell, so he was a good sized turtle. Also, they don't breed until age 10-12, and live to be over 50 in the wild. Because of the location, far from the year-round creek, I believe that mating/laying eggs was involved.
Because it's not safe for a turtle on a driveway, or on a road...not to mention around their worst predators (coyotes, raccoons, etc.) we took him/her back down to the creek. We've had them lay eggs in the fields before, so hope that will be the plan for this one, too.
There were elk on the hwy near here this week. I do like seeing elk.
Well, that's about all for this week. I know that I have more things to do over this weekend than I have time to accomplish. How was your week?
