We had another warm week, but it was a little cooler on Friday. It took longer to heat up, and was about 8 degrees cooler at the warmest point in the day. It looks like there will be a continuing of the cooler nights, and slightly cooker days through next week, but still no rain predicted, though we will have some clouds. I woke up to being socked in with fog yesterday morning. It burned off by later morning, though.
Well, we all know about my 2 bad nights - sigh. I got little done the following days, as I was way too tired, and eventually napped.
But, on the other days some things got done, and I got a couple of pieces of meat; hooray! Barely, but it's here, so...!
Dh is battling the large purple thistles, and we are timing the cattails. If you cut the cattails off at just the right time, they won't scatter seeds at all, and will make a nice addition to a vase.
Ds was really lucky. His truck was an easy fix. Once he got the part, he was able to install it in a short time, and was back to work the following day.
We have a sweet smelling plant here that we first noticed down in the 3rd pasture at Tow Truck Creek. We now we have more of it than before, and when I opened my window this week, I could smell it lightly scenting the air. That means that we'll soon be able to smell the trees and wild roses (which don't smell anything like roses.) in the warm air.
I found one of my camp alarms. They are used to alert you to wild animals close to camp, and hopefully scare them away. I couldn't find my ramset thingys...the ones that you use in nail guns, so had to buy a few. Once it gets here, I'm set. I just have to decide where to place it. This way if someone, from bear to human, is skulking around, we'll know about it, and they will get a start.
I also found some plastic...bright, orange wording...No Trespassing signs on sale. I like the metal ones, but if they aren't up on a tree, people just take them. So, for now, these will do. If we have to go to court on a trespassing charge, I want to have done everything needed.
I want one here, coming up the driveway, one down on the gate to the other house and the back door, and one on the access road.
I asked Ds if we have some kind of cable to go across the driveway, and he says that he thinks so. The driveway is too wide for the chain that we have. Then, once the cable's across the driveway, I'll put the sign dead center, facing the person coming up.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate them. I've been seething since Thursday.
Uhura is feeling better, also. She was kind of freaked out at the activity those couple of days, but today she seems content. She's on my legs right now, but earlier she was next to me, and put her head on my mouse-arm. She was gazing at me adoringly, which helped me to type not at all, lol! But, it was pretty irresistable.
The beautiful Western Fence Lizards...which kill off Lymes...are out in force. They are the ones with the turquoise blue bellies. Beautiful and useful!
The hummingbirds are deliriously happy currently, and eating as much as they can, oh, darn! Ds was at the store today, and I forgot to ask for sugar for the birds! Writing about them reminded me. Well, he'll be in Ukiah soon. When he goes, I'll ask him then. Sheesh!
Mosquitoes are definitely out now, probably from all the water of the last rain. They will even breed in knot holes of trees which get water in them, so it's impossible to get rid of them by just removing water. Our little frogs help with them, eating as many as they can catch each day. Hooray frogs!
We saw the smallest, fully formed frog to date. He/she was minute...smaller than part of my pinky finger nail, and I have smaller hands/fingers/nails than the average person. Absolutely adorable.
The deer are also out in force. It's been months since I've seen this many. I check the camera every time one of the alarms ring, and many times it's deer on the road.
Well, as per usual, I would like to accomplish a few things this weekend. I'm tweaking the mosquito repellent, and hoping to do a little cooking with one of the pieces of meat. How was your week?
