Everyone has something that is 'their thing.'
For example, if I was making a list, I'd say that 'my things' are something like:
Animal training.
Gardening.
Stamps & postal history.
Identifying collectibles and antiques.
Reading.
Using and making essential oils and herbal concoctions.
Organizing for shopping and menus.
Nutrition.
And, Cooking.
I'm sure there are different ones, if I stopped to really think about it. But, if a younger person came to me and said that they were not good at, or were confused by, any of those, I would feel more than comfortable helping them with any of those.
Interestingly, all of them have a long history with me.
For example:
Animal training. I've done this all of my life. I trained my first dog before the 2nd grade, and worked with other animals not very long after.
Gardening. My grandmother had a garden, so I had early exposure. I got my first houseplant at age 3, and had a plant business by teenagehood.
Stamps & postal history. I got my first stamps at around age 6.
Identifying collectibles and antiques. I was interested from a young age.
Books and Reading. I got my first collectible books at a young age, and used to hang out at 2 old bookstores. Really great ones that were a treasure hunt when you went to look around. And, of course, libraries all of my life, like everyone.
Using and making essential oils and herbal concoctions. I got my first essential oils at around 13.
Organizing for shopping and menus. A little later for this one. Maybe 19 or 20?
Nutrition. All my life. I liked to make the connections between food and health, and having a father who knew helped. That's why I eventually became a Nutrition Specialist.
And, Cooking. Always. When my grandmothers or mother cooked, I was right at their elbows, watching. I remember things that no one else did, because I was standing there watching...always. Such as, no one knew that my paternal grandmother added red currant jelly to her applesauce, and that's why it was pink. I knew, because I watched her do it - once - as a child, and never forgot it. Thus, it wasn't lost to time. Then, as soon as I was old enough to be allowed in the kitchen myself, I began cooking and experimenting.
So, by and large, it does seem to play out that the things on my list are long-time interests. Is that true with your interests, as well?
So, what are 'your things?'
