I listened to a show on food choices, and how people differ by personality, rearing, and so forth.
The first thing that they discussed was the type of taste buds by age stereotype. So, for example, one might have the taste buds of an 8 year old, teenager, 30 year old, or senior citizen!
An 8 year old, they say, generally eats less 'sophisticated' foods, and eats more soft, comforting foods and sweets. So, mashed potatoes, mac 'n cheese, chicken nuggets these days, sloppy Joe's, cookies, cake, and ice cream.
They said that teenager's taste buds run more toward spicy foods, sweets, they eat more greasy foods, more fast food, and all of it in greater quantity. Think pizza, malts, hamburgers from stands, candy, ice cream, and chili fries.
Someone in their 30's is supposed to be choosier than a teen, and more concerned with healthy foods, and more sophisticated foods. They seem to be the ones indulging in foods of the world, going to restaurants to have Thai or Vietnamese food, Nicuaraguan food, food from India, etc.
They are the ones who care more about what percent cacao their cocoa powder is, or where their salt comes from. They are also more likely to follow a low fat or low carb diet, and choose healthy bars for their snacks.
Now senior taste buds seem to run toward less spicy foods, and eating fewer foods which commonly cause indigestion. They would rather skip a food than take Tums after eating something that they know will negatively affect them.
They eat at more regular hours, and tend to be creatures of habit, whether that is food at home or food out. When eating food out, they seem to prefer getting their favorites each time, only sometimes eating different items from their local Denny's and other such places. They know what they like, and enjoy it thoroughly!
Which describes you best?
