It's sure feeling like summer. I've had my tabletop fan on. And, the nights were warmer most nights. We've hit high 90's to 102 most days. It's supposed to be quite a bit cooler, day and night, after tomorrow and through next week, and also windy through Tuesday. That will be a problem for the 3 current fires that I know of.
We've been having a big problem with the batteries/generator the past 3 or 4 days. So as not to bore anyone with technical details that I just learned yesterday, I'm having to use more gas for the moment, and figure out getting a part for the generator. It took up our entire day yesterday, and was really wasteful gas/money-wise. I'm hoping that it will not be the problem that I'm worried about, and that it is at the moment.
Oh, I have food jokes! Here they are, the answers will be at the bottom of the post.
1 - Did you hear the rumor about the butter?
2 - What did one plate say to the other?
3 - How do you keep your bagels safe?
So, the raccoon happens to be a pair of raccoons. The big old boar, and a younger one. Not a baby, but young adult.
Yesterday, in the middle of the day the chickens made noise while we were trying to dx the generator/invertor problem, so Dh went out and the boar was in the chicken yard with the hens who were cowering to one side.
He was eating something, which Dh assumed was a chicken, but it wasn't. He was eating......pelleted chicken foood. Uhm, yeah, that's what I thought. What the....??
We had fixed the corner that he was getting in through, so he had climbed the fence and go between the top of it, and the shade netting cover. He looked at Dh, and wasn't concerned with him at all. When he finally decided that he had to leave, he climbed, rather slowly, back over the fence, and out.
He's pretty old. I wonder if he's eating pellets because it's easy or because they do eat such things, like corn? I do feel sorry for him, but not enough to offer him my girls for dinner, and one's already been lost.
I'm thinking that he's too experienced/wily to be caught in the live trap.
The deer have been very comfortable on the 2nd level below this house. One night, Krypto barked and we could see 2 ears sticking up over the edge of the drop off from our front area near the dogs' area.
We've also been seeing the deer on the road, in the yard, etc. We've counted 8 in the herd so far. I'm assuming that any giving birth did so down in the yard of of the old house, but I have no proof of that.
The hummingbirds were quite loud this week. The ones that chitter, at least. When the window's open, I can hear them across the house. They're also being very acrobatic, so have been fun to watch.
Last year, we ended up with cattails next to the frog pond. It's kind of odd how they got there, at the very edge of the pond to begin with, but they were there. This year, they are around 7' tall. When there's a breeze, as there is pretty much every day, they wave beautifully, and are a nice backdrop for the hummingbirds.

1 - Did you hear the rumor about the butter?
Nah, I'd better not spread it.
2 - What did one plate say to the other?
Dinner's on me!
3 - How do you keep your bagels safe?
By putting locks (lox) on them!
I have soooo much to do, but this power issue is preventing me from doing a lot of it. It's keeping me from being able to get online whenever I'd like to, from cooking much, from catching my shows even which, while not important like the other things, is still unpleasant. Drats.
So, I'm going to go and do a little business while I'm online. I've got a website company that will not let me pay them. I got a new debit card a month ago, and have been getting daily notices about failed payment attempts. I've left multiple phone messages, and emails, asking them to let me speak to someone so that I can give them the updated information, but suddenly there are literally no people to speak with. So, I'm off to send another email, and other things which need attending to. Again, argh!
I need to take up meditation again, even though I'm terrible at it! Or, maybe I'll go and seek out some chocolate!
How was your week?
