Well, it's good to be here! Last week was a huge problem with my computer. I have a new part for it, and except for one major error, I've been able to stay online. So, hopefully...!
It was cooler week before last, but then this week it began heating up, and was finally in the one-teens yesterday, landing on 115. Whew! It should cool down a little after the 4th. Not a lot, but some. I'll take it.
I posted about the dogs and the heat yesterday. Poor Hira really surprised me by over-heating yesterday. Krypto is still more in danger of that, I think, but at least, by blowing his coat, he's got to be cooler than before. It would have been better if he'd started a month earlier, but, if wishes were horses...!
The fur that we get out with the Furminator equals softball to basketball size, depending on how long he's combed. Under 5 mins., basketball. It's unbelievable. Hira pretty much doesn't shed yet.
The full moon is on Monday, and it will be a supermoon, so may be nice to look at.
I was wondering how I could say that not much happened on a given day, yet feel very busy. This is going to sound familiar to everyone as they read on, I'm sure! I reviewed my day, and before noon, it looked like this:
Walk dogs.
Feed dogs.
Fetch enough water to fill the dogs' 5 gallon bucket at least 1/2 way.
Feed two sets of cats.
Give cats fresh water.
Put on pots of water for the day.
Let out chickens.
Feed and water chickens.
Water kitchen garden.
Feed humans.
Make hummingbird food if needed.
Brush out coat-blowing dog.
Turn generator on and off as needed.
Set and reset alarm to go with generator/batteries.
Make/receive calls.
Chop any vegetables for dinner or cooking for freezer.
Prep meat or chicken.
Wash any dishes, including pet pans.
Wash nebulizer.
Test things like the walkie-talkies, my battery lights, my reader, the smart phone that I use as an alarm clock, etc., and check the batteries for the thermometer, the zone alarms, my computer mouse, etc. Then, charge what needs charging, and switch out batteries of items that need it.
Write.
Bank, order items, and other household business.
Choose weekly seeds, soak whichever ones need to be, etc.
Also, in the heat, keep up on the water in the polliwog pond, the chicken's misters, etc.
No wonder I feel like we've done things, but can't pinpoint them. This does not, you will note, count real cleaning, actual cooking, or going through things. Mystery solved.
We've found a couple of frogs on the floor. The trick is to get them before a dog or cat does. One little, fully formed frog, was no larger than my pinky nail, which is to say: very, very small. Adorable, but back out to the pond.
The frogs have been rewarding us by eating the bugs on the vegetables. We have pumpkins starting to flower, so they are definitely welcome. It's a symbiotic relationship.
The plan was to let Thyri go to the local fair, which is quite small - the larger ones are not in our town, but now it's being rethought. Ds's bosses wife just tested positive for covid - the day after Ds saw him, yesterday. They say that she felt ill, as if she had a cold, beginning on Monday, but she tested negative for covid. The same on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But, on Friday, she definitely tested positive.
Ds won't be able to see the cardiologist until August, but the regular Dr. put him on a beta blocker yesterday, to go with his other medication.
I still have to finish going through the found photos, and photo DVD's - which I had to stop doing when my computer wasn't working. Hopefully, I can continue now.
I am pretty sure that it's going to continue to be as hot as it was yesterday, through the 5th, as predicted, so I've only got until late morning to accomplish everything for the day, and maybe a little more at night. So, I'm working on summer-schedule now, opening and closing windows at different times, etc.
The hummingbirds do not visit their feeders during the worst heat of the day, just early, then later on. We're on the same schedule!
How was your week?
