We had such hot weather, but they said that it would cool for a few days, and it did. We dropped over 20 degrees during the day, and 10-15 at night. It was 48-49 for 3 days running.
From Tuesday - Friday, as far as I can see, it's going to be terribly hot again, some days, starting this weekend, with light winds.
The supermoon looked huge here. We can't always see the best part of the full moons, depending on the hours it rises etc. due to the hills, but this time it looked large here for days. It was very light at night, which brought out many critters.
You know that you're an exciting person, who lives an exciting life when...
I am over-the-top thrilled because I've got some drawer organizers waiting for me at the post office! Lol!
There was a pre-Prime Day sale, then the seller added on an additional discount...by the end, they were not expensive at all. Basically, it's 20-some odd clear containers - no lids - in 4 sizes.
You dump out your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, office, or garage drawer (Gladly!) and fit as many of these as you want in them. Then, put what you want in them to keep things separate.
Some are small and square, 2 are rectangular, and the 4th is also, but it's much narrower, such as for pens.
There were photos to show size with objects, such as tacks, scrunchies, pens, small scissors, nail polishes, calculators, melon ballers, and so forth. I've got many ideas for them in my head. I love an organized drawer.
Ds got sooo sick from his new medication the other day, that he couldn't even drive home, ddil had to get them there. So, he hasn't been to the post office as yet, but hopefully this weekend.
I know that it gets old, but more phone calls this week to unravel problems. The internet co. that has been sending me daily emails since April, to tell me that my card was out of date (updated 2 1/2 months ago.), yet not answering calls or emails, finally got back to us over 2 months later. They were vague as to what happened, but it got straightened out. We've been with them for over 20 years, and talking to the same guy for that long...sheesh!
And, others like it. For example, I had ordered dog and cat food, but got an email saying that my card was denied. What the...??!
After calling, it turned out that they were trying to use a several year old card that I'd removed. They then removed it from their view, and it's done, but why, in the presence of a card that we use every month, would they suddenly try to take an old card? (That was gone from my view.) What guy said, I know, why don't we try to use this expired #, instead of the current one that we always take? Argh!
Aside from all of that, I made some headway with going through things and organizing - hooray!
The 4th was quiet here, and I was glad of that. Besides which, it was almost too hot to move.
The day before, we celebrated (quietly, as it was 118 by 1!) our 35th year here. Speaking of the changing weather, while it's always hot in July, the day that we arrived, July 3rd, it was cool and foggy.
Those teeny, tiny baby frogs are almost old enough to let most of the pond dry for the summer. The really little ones have been going to the garden, where pumpkins are growing, and eating tiny pests off the leaves. They are small pests, maybe aphid sized.
Speaking of pumpkins, we don't know how well they will do in the end, with the weather and all, but the pumpkin set really took off this week. We've been hand pollinating them, just to be sure.
The hummingbirds have been eating constantly morning and evening to dark, but as I've observed in the past, doing very little eating in the heat of the day when it's really hot. They are okay in the 90's or even low 100's, but past that and they sit in the trees and wait for it to cool off a little. They've been loving this little reprieve from the heat, as have we.
I got a cute note from a girl in France who read about our chickens. She had only heard of brown and white eggs, never pink, green, or blue, and wanted to know, "How comes it?" I sent her a link to a website which showed my chicken breeds and photos of the egg colors. I wasn't even sure that she could access all of our websites, but apparently she could.
In fact, we were just talking about our eggs a few days ago, and how many are blue this time around. I like the blue ones.
The 2 baby girls, which aren't really little anymore, but aren't adults, were out with the big girls a couple of days ago. Not on purpose. They 'escaped' in the morning while being let out.
I'd been worried that they'd be picked on. I needn't have worried. Due to them being 1/2 grown, and also being leghorns, albeit brown ones, the one who doesn't have the problem leg was kicking tail feathers on the big girls who got impertanent with her! It's going to be interesting when they are in the same yard with them. That will be soon, I think. I'm just a little concerned about the other one. So, maybe a couple more weeks.
Well, I'm off to start cleaning out drawers in anticipation of my new dividers. I'm separating stamps, envelopes, pens, and Post It notes from eye glass screwdrivers, batteries (my rechargeables. I want the AA's in one place, and the AAA's in another.), rechargeable bulbs, and 'Everything Drawer' stuff. The latter has everything from tops and lighters in it, to Bactine and triplebiotic.
I didn't used to care if I had lighters at easy access except that it's nice to be prepared. Then, the guys needed to put shade netting on plants and over the chickens, and you need to melt the edges. Oops. So, I bought a new pack of lighters over a year ago, and keep them handy in different places, so as not to impede progress!
I'm also using one for bathroom cabinet items, such as bandaids and such. For the kitchen, my garlic slicer, cheese slicers, etc. And, for the laundry room/household tool room, screwdrivers, and other small items.
How was your week?
