I went to a table top tree last year. No one seems to be concerned by it.
I finally have all of my Christmas boxes out of storage. So, I have been consolidating, donating, and reacquainting myself w/ items I forgot I had. Two such items, are a stuffed dog and cat that were part of a Hallmark line years ago. I set them in a red cat bed that hasn't been used by a feline in months. It's sitting on the floor, in front of the table w/ the tree. The next morning, I found both animals had been knocked out of the bed and scattered in the room. I put them back and they haven't been uprooted since.
A casualty of the cats, is the bouquet of beads and ribbons one of my lace angels holds. It needed to be glued back to her hands, so I set it on my desk w/ other items needing repaired (between moving from SC to OH, sitting in storage 8 years and then being manhandled from storage to the house, I'm finding not everything survived). The same night the cat and dog were kicked out of the cat bed, I found 3 of the blue bead floral picks, pulled off the bouquet and laying under the desk.
Another item I knew I had, but it was in storage, is a black and white cat that meows Christmas carols when you press his paw. Apollo and Misty do not like him at all and will hightail it from the room, if someone plays the carols.
Overall, I've been very pleased w/ how my mini zoo has handled the change in decor. I did play it safe and set my nativity up in my grandmother's china cabinet. Too many smaller items to entice a cat to bat at.
