When it was gotten. The age to make really good pets is under 8 wks. old.
How it was raised. Like a cat, you have to be so careful how you handle them, and let them know what is, and isn't, acceptable. So, when you get a skunk from someone else, you're taking a chance of inheriting behaviors that you don't like.
And, of course, what type of skunk it is. While all skunks can be good pets when raised well, and started very young, there are still personality differences between varieties of skunks, some of which appeal to some people more than others.
Kind of like having a basset hound vs. a JRT.
And, of course, they need to be 'de-skunked.'
