First, Tango is depressed. He makes a happy, whining sort of sound, which he stopped making abruptly the day after the wedding. He made it today when Ds came by to get something, and drop something off.
And, Uhura is missing. The routine is that she wants out during the day, and when Ds gets home in the evenings or even afternoon, she runs up to his room when she hears his truck, and goes in with him to get wet cat food, and sleep with him. Then she gets up and goes out in the morning.
When Ds left, Dh went up to feed her, but she's not been seen. He went against our rule, and left food out for her, but it's not been touched.
When Ds was back today, he went up and Uhura, though she knows his engine sound, didn't show up.
He said that, since he has to be back one more time this evening, he will try again, at a time that she's more used to. Any good thoughts for her to be safe, and show up, would be appreciated. She's just not going to be a strictly indoor cat at this time. That's one of the problems with taking in some feral cats. At least she will spend some time in, unlike Mamou.
Tilde decided to catch a lizard this week. It was about 9" long without it's tail. When we first met her, at the pound, she chased a lizard, so this isn't a new interest of hers, but we haven't seen her even try in a long time.
And, speaking of lizards, and Uhura...Ds has, the week before the wedding, been putting dry food out during the day, because he wanted to make sure that the Siamese that he periodically gets a glimpse of, can eat.
Well, one day, he looked into the dry food bowl, and there, on top of the dry food, was a lizard. No longer with us, and a bit on the dry side. *sigh* I guess smart, though. She figured that her snack should go with the other food?
Mamou has a swollen ear. He must have fought with something. It could have been many animals, but my bet is the Siamese.
This past weeked, Dh was outside after dark, locking down the 'fridge aka bear-proofing it, when he saw the new cat. It looked like a male to him. To him, even in the dark, he looked to have very dark ears and mask, and maybe henna-ish tail and saddle. That could be a color, or could be from lying out in the sun, as can happen when dark cats lay out. His body was white, and he's got a classic Siamese body, which I love, vs. the newer, whippy/thin body
They were about 4' apart, and Dh got some food, and set it down. The cat ate it, even though he was right there. Until Mamou came over. Mamou paced the deck, which is why I think that they might have fought. And, I believe that, though Mamou is a large cat, that if any cat could best him in a fight, it would be a Siamese.
If the cat stays around, and was, perhaps, a pet that was abandoned, I will be happy to let him become one of our house cats. I currently only have 2 house cats, and they live at opposite ends of the house, so it's definitely not over-crowded.
We have 10 hens these days. 9 that are 5 years old, and 1 that is 11, which is old for a hen. They have completely embraced spring, and we are getting a lot of eggs again.
The other day, we broke the year's record, and got 9 in a day...until a couple of hours later, when we got a 10th egg! So, everyone, including our retired older lady, gave us an egg that day!
We were using the little poultry nipples to give our hens water from a bucket. You put holes in a bucket, attach them, (they remind me of a Lixit for dogs.) around the bucket, fill said bucket with water, put the lid of, and voila!
They can always get water that is clean, and uncontaminated. Plus, it can't get dumped over. These things are good for the hens, and good for us, because it removes the daily scrubbing of the pan.
But, with our older bucket needing to be replaced, we decided to go for another system with them. We're going to attached them to pvc pipes, which is another way of doing it, but one that we've not tried yet. The side pipes will be at a 45 degree angle so that the water, which you put in the end, flows down to the nipples.
It will have to wait until Ds has time to get the pipes, but hopefully soon.
Well, that's about all that's going on here for now - and it's enough! Have a great week!
