As for the Heartgard. I am using it and will continue to use it as long as I have dogs. It effecacy studies several years ago, it was determined to be the best deterrent for heartworm. The main problem with it is that there are so many new preventives out there, and the vets tend to stock what manufacturer gives them the best deal. I am not fond of the newer ones because they are supposed to take care of too many things. My vet does not carry it at the clinic, but I can buy it through his online store. My twelve-month supply for Kenzi costs a little over $100.00. It is a bit cheaper for Sophie because of her size. Whatever you do, buy what is available through your vet. It is guaranteed, and the companies will pay for treatment if your pet should happen to develop heartworm. The Heartgard at places like WalMart (I think they have quit carrying it) may be counterfeit.
Our temps are supposed to drop on Friday, and I am ready. It is 97 right now. Way to hot for October. I am even ready for Winter at this rate.
