My 1st dh and I had the car break down on way to Chicago from Wichita Falls, TX. We were in OK. A man stopped and offered to tow us to closest town.... 50 miles away.
He hooked a chain to our front and to the rear of his. It was curvy freeway all the way, but at 80/90 miles an hour. AT NIGHT! Talk about scared.... the ex was sweating bricks and I was shaking like a leaf. I had never yelped before in my life, I yelped every time our car swung sideways as he changed lanes or went around a curve. I bet he was laughing the whole way.
When we got to St. Louis we crossed over a river by going up, way up a hill. While we were coming down the other side we were in town and there was city traffic at the bottom of the hill with a light - it was red. Our brakes went out and God only knows why we were not killed.
The light turned green just as we got to the bottom going very fast. Thankfully it was a standard and he downshifted to slow us down so we didn't hit any cars.
We coasted to a stop as the road went up a slight high again. That was my intro to Oklahoma and Illinois. Terrifying. I was too scared to throw up and he wasn't in good shape either.
I wanted a storm shelter at BOR and in MN. The locals laughed at me.
That means folks from Oklahoma are way smarter then ones from TX and MN. Sheesh!
My life has been way to exciting. Truly!
