I guess that, as long as predators are fooled...! I've never seen one of those in person.
I'm really glad that you saved him/her, too. And yes, they can really bite! Brave woman!
In all of our rescues of turtles, we only had one snapping turtle. He was a lot of work, poor thing (I think that this is where a good southerner would say, 'bless his heart!'), and when he left, I felt some relief. Dh and I had to shuck lots of oysters each day to feed him. It wasn't easy, and I got sick of oysters!
But, my mom was the real heroine. She took him for a long time, and made him special vitamin meatballs all that time.
I think that both yours, and mine, had long, happy, turtle lives. :-)
