Kitty had me searching the other day for her. It took a while but I finally found her on top of my Picnic basket atop the tallest bookcase in the library. If she hadn't poked her head Up I never would have noticed. I stood on a step stool to reach get her down.
I get very nervous when cats go missing. In MN there was an unknown hole in under the kitchen sink. One of my fave cats from BOR "Wallace" discovered it shortly after I moved in. He was gone for days. Very scary.
Soli is 100% black and he disappears into what I call black holes under furniture. If he doesn't want to be found it's near impossible. Usually I end up on my hands and knees with a large box flashlight.. I still might not find him even then.
The main worry is that Mussy & Soli were ranch cats at the Cabin and both were born in MN on the horse ranch. The had the run of the place.
Thus both plot escapes when the kids or Boy & Ddil or company are here. So far I have managed to catch them in the act at the moment they are dashing over the threshold.
Mussy is pretty much 90% blind. With the street 15 feet from the front door... they scare me to death sometimes.
Charlie is black and when we are outside and he opts for going off on his own to check something out... I often loose him amid the shadows, under bushes and behind trees, or under the kids pontoon.
If he knows I'm looking for him he freezes in place until I practically walk into him. Luckily he doesn't do it often. You'd think during the winter he would be easier to spot. Nope. LOL
Charlie makes me crazy with worry for at the Mobile home park he climbed the fence and chanced two of the small dogs that were allowed to run by their owners. they bated Charlie all the time.
Here we have 90% of chain link but 10% is Lattice until I get the chain link replaced - truck took out a section just at the road. So my fear is that Charlie would get out. He did once two years ago - not a good experience for me. A dog was at the gate and Charlie popped the gate open and they took off. He and the other dog got into a fight. My worst nightmare. There are now three ways to keep the gate closed.
Charlie is so fast that I can't keep up with hm or catch him unless he stops. I still fear him climbing the fence.. especially with the deer and stray dogs that are constantly roaming around the streets and the unfenced areas of my neighbors plots.
So far he dashes at the fence a lot but not attempted to climb it. Scary.
