There's nothing really new with Mamou. He's doing well, and enjoying having some company, I think. But, as always, he the big cat on campus...literally, and figuratively...so the other cats give him space if he wants something that they have.
But, he's a good example to Tux, as he likes to be pet, etc.
And, speaking of Tux, he's becoming closer to us by leaps and bounds. As of last week, he's been bumping us with his head, and as of a couple of days ago, he let Dh pet him when he was eating.
At first he moved away, but Dh was persistent, and eventually he barely moved, and continued eating.
It may be nothing, but one eye looks a bit different to me than the other. It is on the same side as that wound on the side of his head that we slipped antibiotics into his food for, when he first came to the porch.
Originally, I assumed that he'd been in a cat fight, but he could have been grabbed by a dog or wild animal before he got here, or even been hit by a car. There's no way to tell.
It might mean, though, that he doesn't see well from that eye, which may have been a problem all along. With that being his left side, and Dh being right handed, he comes to him with his hand on the bad(?) eye side.
When I pointed out that it looked to me like his eye is not quite normal, he changed his approach, and that's when he was able to touch him.
Eventually, when people are no longer sheltering in, and we capture the 2 boys to be fixed, I'll ask the vet to check his eye.
Oh, and he is rock solid with coming when he's called now. It's amazing what a little food bribery can achieve!
Uhura has been splitting her time between up the hill, and down here, this past week. I guess that, with Ds not even coming by daily to feed her like he was before the baby was born, she's looking for some company and someone to feed her.
When he came to look at the generator, she didn't wait for him to come to her. She heard the truck, and ran down here to him.
She's not at all happy about the boys, and will run off if they move toward her. *But,* and here's another change, she will allow us to pick her up and carry her from point A to point B! That's a huge change.
Dh carried her here, into the house, to eat one day. But, that didn't go well. As soon as she saw Tango, she was done with being in the house.
Still, being touched, picked up, and carried, are all really big steps. She's been here without Ds living here for close to a year now, so it definitely took patience.
And, the Himalayan, (soon to be named, stay tuned!) has started coming out in the open down here now.
He meows at us...he's got a very quiet voice...and has decided to sometimes eat when it's kitty feeding time. Not all the time, though.
But, not with Mamou and Tux. He wants to be at the back of the house to eat, for now. I don't blame him.
It began one day, when Ds came by to drop off mail. He told me on the phone that the Himalayan was reclining in the driveway, until he pulled up.
I still don't know where either he, or Uhura, go at night, but perhaps they will soon join Mamou and Tux in sleeping in cat shelters on the porch.
His problem, is that he's whole, too. Unlike Tux, though, who doesn't care about being whole, and never sprays, the Himalayan follows Uhura around (she's fixed.), and will mark sometimes. She wants nothing to do with him.
So, while I'm looking forward to having them both neutered, I'm especially looking forward to having him neutered.
Overall, there have been some big moments for all 3 of the newer FF cats, though it's hard to call Uhura new.
The rest of the cats, dogs, and chickens are all doing well.
Have a good evening!
