Missy wants to be out more than Chelsea, but I've been putting on their cooling scarves if it is hot out.
Yesterday I saw views of one of our tallest buildings in the morning and it was hazy...from the fires, and then before dusk and you couldn't even see it for all the smoke. The sun has been bright, bright red.
Also, yesterday morning I got a call from Kara. Josh had called her in tears. Bonkers had passed away. She had gone behind the door in Kara's bathroom, so it took him a long time to find her. She was already in rigor. So I went over to be with him and we wrapped her in a towel and found a box...that was really hard because her legs were so stiff and I could not make myself bend them and break bones to make her fit. We finally found a box that she could be in comfortably and then wrapped the box with a trash bag so it wouldn't break down if it got wet from sprinklers. Josh dug down as far as he could because the ground is really, really hard and we lay her to rest. It was really important to let him have that closure. They can re do it sometime because it only has a layer of dirt on top, but he needed that. I stayed with him for awhile and tried to do things to clean up the patio and the house, but it became a bit obvious that he wanted to be alone, so I came back home. Kara was on her way from up north in Campbell, so I knew she'd be there soon. I felt so badly for him. Bonkers was a special cat and for the last 7 years she had so much love poured on her...it had to make a difference and make up for whatever she'd gone through that drew her to a home where she would be treasured.
