Really struggling right now...
My Misty (15ish, was a foster fail) tore her ACL a few months ago. Due to age, vet recommended to not do surgery and I agreed. Still think it was right decision. He put her on an holistic supplement to help ease some of the discomfort. Misty has done very well. Until this past Saturday.
She started having trouble getting her feet up under her, on the hard floor. Once she was up, she was mobile, would go out, potty, etc.
Yesterday, it got worse. She was still struggling, but began limiting when she got up. Potty time was about it.
Today, it started out like yesterday. She went out around 12:30. They were out for a bit, because I was sweeping and mopping and it was nice out. She came in about 1:15, got water, scrounged around the kitchen baseboards (a favorite pastime), then laid down in the living room. That was about 1:40 this afternoon. She has not been up to go out since.
I have tried getting her up. I get her standing and she just leans into me, then collapses. I bought non-skid dog socks
They didn't help. I bought carpet squares thinking if she was on those when she tries to get up, she'd have traction. Nope...
She is eating, drinking, and peeing (unfortunately where she lays). She got excited when she realized I was putting her younger sister to bed and had the bed time biscuits. She scooted herself around and pulled herself after me. I've been feeding her and bringing water to where she is laying. This afternoon, she scooted herself in front of the picture window and alerted me to suirrels, people walking down the street, delivery men, etc.
Tonight, I have her a rimadyl I had left from before she was put on the herbal supplement.
I have always relied on their eyes and behaviors to tell me when it was time. While Misty is struggling physically, she is happy and alert. She is involved in what happens here. She enjoys her food
I am so torn right now. Has anyone dealt w/ this? Any advice? I am in a wheelchair, and I did try a makeshift sling this morning, but it freaked her out. By the time I got back in my chair, she slipped out of the sling. I'm not even sure I could manage the sling, her and my chair.
Phyllis, Misty was supposed to be my last foster for SCSR before I moved to OH. She entered my home and immediately let me know she had found her forever home. I made it 6 years fostering, before getting a foster fail, lol!
EDITED: my vet office is only open on T and Th. Plus, my vet was supposedly retiring end of August. There is another vet taking over his patients. She has never seen Misty. I plan to call my vet, 1st thing in the morning. I want leaving the vet out of the equation. I am dealing w/ screwy hours.
PRAYERS are also appreciated.
