Speaking of cacti and succulents, we had quite a collection of specimens in L.A. And, mostly critters left them alone, as long as they couldn't be knocked over, which was very bad for the plants.
Then, we bought some specimens from a former plant company partner of ours. Gorgeous, and rare in some cases.
We put them on a table outside, and our colored bull terrier decided to 'taste' them. We came out and there were tooth punctures in quite a few, which causes rot. Some were in even worse condition.
She's lucky that she didn't get really sick, minimum, because some of them had the poisonous white fur on them, and one was a Lophophora williamsii, which died as a result. It was a live specimen that was a good size, and came from a collector. So, while I've not had much problem with cats and cacti etc., I have had a dog get in them.
I understand, and hope that everything that you need shows up with little effort now.
You're right, peanut butter can work. I'm glad that it did when you needed it to!
Waving to Dd, "Hi, Kate!" :-)
