When I got him - I did what I do to all my animals. I invade their privacy. The cats don't like it so much.
I poke my fingers in their ears, nose, grab their feet, roll them over, even stick my fingers in the mouths.
I rub them all over. All of them, even Charlie, they never bat an eye, twitch, try to leave or escape.
It is what I learned from Babe's trainer. She had me do the same to her. Babe was green broke and she hated to be touch and she was not young. So I would rub, touch, poke lol. I hated riding but taking care of her and Rosie my cow, they learned to accept me. Even Rosie's calves.
I still poke my finger into Charlie's mouth when he yawns. He gives me a very drool look.
Massaging is part of the treatment as well. There isn't a spot on Charlie I haven't touched. I always was polite and loving about it with all of them.
And I did the same with Fritz the Boarder. He had a blown out right fore knee. So I gave him extra love. Babe would shove into where he was standing so I would rub her instead. But I worked his knee.
Plus I changed his diet... when he arrived he never ran just stood there. So I messed with him and bulked him up. Had the vet and farrier check him out. When he left he ran and jump about. His owner was so pleased. His attitude was happy. He couldn't be ridden. He gimped about. But he kept up with Babe when she was frisking and running about.
They all followed me around the pasture 13 acres. Lol me and Blue would be working in the barn, pasture etc and there they all were lined up watching or following.
Critters are curious so I took advantage and rubbed them down often. They loved it.
