That's true here about the food, too. I have found that their treat food (cats) settles them down before bed, if they aren't settling. I think that it's from a late feeding, too, though not really late-late, just in their minds. They aren't hungry, no matter what, because they've had dry food, but explain that to them...sheesh!

It's kind of like when they get meat. Say that they get as much meat as a can of food. Dh figured that they then don't need the treat food, because the amount of meat met or exceeded the amount of treat food. Logical, right?

I tried to explain to him that cats often beat out dogs for being creatures of habit. So, skipping their treat food? Good luck with that, lol!

And, I was right. This was many years ago. Sometimes he still says things like: But they just had meat an hour ago! My answer is always something like: Tell them that! Or, sometimes I will say something like: As their counsel, it is my duty to inform you that my client/s have their treat food in their contract, and would like you to please fulfill it within' the prescribed time...blah, blah, blah. I only go that route if he's not seriously grumpy himself, lol!

I really wasn't going to give these cats the small containers of wet food, though Mamou and Tux always got a little of Sluggo's on their dry once a day as a treat.

However, when I couldn't get them to come up here, and they were becoming wilder and wilder, and losing weight, even though Ds would leave food once a day down there (I am not sure whether or not wild animals weren't getting it before them, or chased them from their dishes.), I decided to use the wet food once a day to bring them closer and closer to the house.

Then, once I got Mamou and Uhura up here, they wouldn't come in the house, especially Mamou, who had never, in over 10 years, come in. (We tried.) So, I would leave the front door open, and put the wet food just inside the door (It was hot weather then.), and slowly farther in. Eventually, it worked, but by then, he was getting a daily treat, and all was lost.

I still have quite a bit from when Sluggo was alive.

I could stop giving it to them, but I don't think that I will at this time.
