My query is why do they wake me even earlier when we are in standard time? Like at 3:30 am.
Everyone went back to sleep - even me. In fact I sleep fairly heavy for those few hours.
I woke to heavy rain and opened the front door to take a peek. Usually I let Charlie out for his run - literaly.
He races to the back corner where he might spot the deer. Then when there are none he checks out the cemetery.
Today the rain was coming down in buckets. So he needed no encourement to come inside.
Since there is rain & mud Charlie comes & stands perfectly still - without prompting - as I wipe him down then scrub each paw free of as much mud as possible. After which he expects his Kong of training treats and a teaspoon of peanut butter.
Normally when it is not pouring he moseys back to the front. He likes the area by the fence beneath the guest bath. Hummm?
This morning after the rain stopped - but will continue today. I let him out again.
Charlie sniffed and walked towards the retaining wall. And casually jumped up, careful to NOT disturb any of my fossils. These can be dinner plate size to tiny dime sized.
Since I have allowed him up there he acts like King of that area. While he sniffs and wanders, occasionally pausing to stare daggers at the Arch Enemy's driveway where now two AE's live. He marks the big tree trunk at the place of latest conflict.
In the meantime I have tossed Chance's leftover seeds on the driveway. I then climb the fence next to the retaining wall to put peanuts in the squirrel bowl in a Cedar tree.
Meanwhile Charlie strolls the fence between my uphill neighbor's house and mine. Oops, her clothes line is full of blankets.
Charlie marks a bit in a neighborly fashion as I climb back down to the driveway. By the by - I get immense pleasure out of performing that physical act every single day. Witnesses or not. 8-) snickering.
If I have not mentioned Charlie is sans a ball.
Once I am firmly re-grounded I stand on the porch and call Charlie in. It may take him a second or two or three or five to cease his sniffing. Finally he turns towards home, jumps over the top of the retaining wall, as I hang my head and sigh, when a few Fossils tumble to the ground.
Alas, my poor fossils are doomed to be stepped on and shuffled about every day any number of times.
Charlie stood while I toweled him off. Again scrubbing the mud on his paws off.
After his apple & bone, he is now apparently exhausted and is stretched out on my bed sleeping the sleep of the innocent.
Me? I am going over my daily list if chores. I did not do last night's dishes. Spagetti. Nor did I marinate that chicken breast. Guess I'll do that first or I will forget again.
