We lost the other 2 :-( so we lost 4 yesterday.
This morning, the other Brahma (there were only 2) seemed pretty freaked out. She and her sister were always together, and now her sister's gone. They often pair up by breed, because of the different personalities of various birds. Brahma's are extremely mellow.
When Ds heard what happened, he agreed to come and help his dad.
Currently, they are putting a mister on one side of the pen.
Also, I had more shade netting (there's some over them.) so we're extending it. I thought that it was okay to give them a choice to go under it or not. Now, they will not have a choice.
When they went to work on the netting, they found a large paper wasp nest very close by. Ds is allergic, so Dh tried to get it into a bag. Epic fail. Wasps everywhere.
So, they came in to regroup. They took my new small spray bottle for oil (For many years now, I've kept a bottle of cooking oil in a spray bottle nearby in the summer. If you put it on medium mist, you can usually cover even a yellow jacket who's 'mad as a hornet' and that sends them to the floor. You can dispatch them then, or let the oil do it's job in time. I've never seen one ultimately survive it, and it's better than spraying bug poison...
He's got to go soon, ddil wants to go somewhere. So far it's 110. It's too hot.
Thank you for the suggestion, we'll add that to our other measures.
I miss the beautiful maple and bay trees that were next to/over the old coop. But, they fell in the January storm anyway, crushing the coop, so I guess I miss the old days of them, and not the reality.
Love All Life, Thank You For Posting! :)
