I tried all kinds of things. What worked was holding on to his collar with my left hand while vacuuming with my right. It was very awkward at first but eventually he opted for lying on the bed, the couch, the loveseat, the chair. Lolol anyplace above the vacuum.
Before he would attack the wand. And bark hysterically. He went crazy if I put him a room and shut the door: bedroom, library, bathroom. That didn't work at all.
If he even thinks of looking at it, he gets a "mother NO!"
Cats run when I vacuum. To their closet hiding place.
Charlie goes out when I feed the birds & squirrels. No ball allowed. He gets to roam all over the yard. This is before his breakfast. When I'm done I say Home and in he goes.
Sometimes he stands at the bottom of the back steps and looks longingly at me praying for one of his orange balls with a strap.
Those are only for when I am exercising. Thats when we do 3 or more laps while playing ball. That happens 3,4, or 5 times a day. Luckily. 8-)
If I'm reading in bed if its early he sits up next to me asking to go out & play ball, usually in his mouth. Or have a treat or he's reminding me I forgot his lunch. The same if I'm watching TV unless it's after 7pm then he goes to bed.
On the phone is when he barks to go out. Usually he doesn't like me on the phone. So I go outside alone. Lolol.
He watches me use my dumbbells. With a look that says what are you doing.
He rarely chases the vacuum. And if I'm at my desk.... he goes to sleep at my feet.
