He used to whine, yip, bark, etc. We're sticking with him going out, leashed, 98% of the time that someone comes up, even for a minute. And now, as of the end of this week, he's a lot better; no antics at all. (Ds notwithstanding.)
Actually, he was tested this week when he was left behind the kitchen door. He was soooo good. Dh was outside to talk to the delivery guy (We didn't have time to leash him that time, without possibly missing the guy.) and he didn't whine, yip, put his paws on the door, etc. I won't expect that every time, but it seems to me that the 'meet 'n greets' are working.
Also, I was very happy to see, this week, that his reaction to shooting was not one of fear. Pretty much, everyone on my road, all the way in, have guns, and some shoot regularly. One person is law enforcement, and they are required to target practice at regular intervals; one is a partner in a gun shop in another town and tests guns, one is ex-forestry, etc. etc.
The first shots that he heard were close by, but a smaller caliber, maybe a 22. He barked a little, but wasn't afraid, and stood by the door in the direction that he thought that they were coming from. Then, there were what had to have been shots from a shotgun. Not many, maybe 7 or 8, but he still remained unafraid. You never know with dogs, so I was glad to see it.
He also goes around in the opposite direction of following, to cut people/cats off at the pass. That must be the herder coming out in him.
The other thing is that he's very nosy. We have been limiting him to part of the house (he can get by/over the barriers, if he tries, it's just boxes and empty totes, but it's been working.) until he's a little older.
Well, we cut apart a small swath of the living room, as that's where he finds the screws in the open walls, and also where the swamp cooler, and cord to the security cameras are.
When Dh goes in that part of the living room for something, such as to turn on the swamp cooler, Krypto watches him from over the back of the chair, with his paws on the back, his head peering over.
We don't encourage, nor discourage him. I don't mind that he looks over and watches. But, if you encourage him, he will leap over the chair. I learned that he could do that a couple of weeks ago. That, I'm not ready for him to do, even though he can.
He is finally feeling better as of Saturday, from Monday. Because he wasn't feeling well, I paused his training after the vet visit. He ended up very sore from the injections, but more importantly, he became lethargic, and had a fever. He also stopped eating well. He finally ate a full meal yesterday.
I had to get him new food/water bowls. I don't know where my years of pans are. So, I got a pair of stainless dishes. They are not as pretty as the ones that he was using, but they are servicable. Maybe one day I will find pretty ones in his size. And, I luckily found the large size that I needed for $4. each, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
I needed them because the fairly large pans that I have, have been outgrown. Even mounded with kibble, it's less than a meal for Krypto, and he's got a quirk...he'll finish off his food quickly, if he's hungry, but will not continue to eat if more is added to his pan. I don't know why, but if he's going to get full meals, he needed larger pans.
He's doing pretty well with the cats, unless he's in play mode. He's learning, at least part of the time, that the cats are approachable, if he does it slowly, and calmly.
I also got 2 ice cube trays. He loves water, but there comes a point when they don't need as much water as they can drink. So, I'm thinking that, when he's at that point, I can give him a reasonable amount of water, with a couple of ice cubes in it. That should slow him down a little, and give him something to lick which is still water.
One of his ears still flops over most of the time, though it periodically stands. And, on Tuesday's weekly measuring, he measured an inch taller than last week. (20")
The other day, Dh went out the front door, and Krypto, who was left in the house, rang the bells to go out. He didn't have to go out, he just wanted to join Dh!
Well, that's all the Krypto news for this week, since we were down for a few days after his vet visit. Currently, he wants his medium, squeaky, blue nubby ball. It's excellent for teething puppy gums, and is made by Gnawsome. Unfortunately, while it's holding up beautifully, it sounds like a *loud* jungle bird. And, like all of his squeaky toys, he pretty much chews it maniacally when he gets going, lol! So, you have to be ready to overlook the (did I say loud?) noise that it makes, and be prepared to turn the television up if you are watching.
But, he loves it, and if it will help with his teething, it's fine by me.
Love All Life, Thank You For Posting! :)
