Second, I have a new cat. Duh. Lol!
I was so busy going into rescue mode (long years of experience.) that the reality of this being a new family member just didn't fully sink it. I knew it, but yet didn't.
I knew that it had hit me when I went shopping for kitten food and toys. It was like shopping for puppy things, only a lot smaller!
It wasn't easy finding a kitten food that would be good for him, and me, but I finally did, I hope. It's only for a while, of course, when he'll go onto the adult cats' food.
Meanwhile, he's eating this wet food, and I have Meyenberg goat formula that I can supplement his food with.
While I was shopping, I was tempted by boxes of toys for kittens. But, they were annoyingly pricey. So, I looked around for a long time, and found packs of old school toys. For example, 12 toys - some mice, the plastic balls that are open weave, etc., and a kind of pop-up play dealy on sale. I saved 80% off of a box, which had fewer toys in it, and know that he'll like these just as much.
And, like most little ones, he'll love the free toys best...bags, boxes, and water bottle tops and pulls.
The only thing will be keeping Krypto away from his toys, once he has free rein of the house. That won't be easy. Like most puppies and only dogs, his thoughts are like this:
It's in the house, therefore it must be for me/be mine!
Someone's talking, making kissy noises, etc. so it must be to me!
I may reserve toys that would break easily in his jaws for playing with in his crate, even later on!
Anyway, after I got out of rescue mode, it occurred to me that this baby isn't going anywhere. Normally, we get them old enough to re-home. We never could find homes for all that we got, but some got good homes. (unfortunately, during 'kitten season' everyone is giving away kittens, and it's difficult to make yours any more enticing than all of the ones that people's friends had, that were given away in front of the market, etc. etc.
But, I can already see that there's no point in thinking of this cat as one which someone will adopt.
As I said before, no one cares about a little black kitten (black especially. The pounds/HS have special discounts on black kittens off and on, they are so difficult to place compared to other colors.) when the pound/HS and regular people's homes are over-flowing with kittens right now. Which means that I would have a difficult time finding a good, safe home for him.
Actually, it's why I had so many black/black and white cats - Eegee, AquaNinja, Fang, Pantera, Hunter, Nefertiti, Bond, Simon Templar, Uhura, Tux...the list goes on.
So, Henry is ours, it looks like! (Unless Henry turns out to be a girl, in which case she will still be ours, but with another name!)
Love All Life, Thank You For Posting! :)
