While back, I asked about starting Aragorn with a martingale collar. I think he is ready, but he is kind of in between stages/sizes of collars. If I buy the one that fits now, we only have an inch left before my growing puppy would outgrow it. So, I am going to wait a bit until his neck size catches up to the next collar size. Now, do I buy the one that matches his leash or matches his harness (turtle print versus light blue)...
Also, I talked with his puppy class instructor about how shelties are notorious for slipping out of any collar that isn't a slip or martingale collar. She says it isn't the collar she objects too, but when people leave them on 24/7 as a regular collar, not realizing they are dangerous when left like that. I assured her that my guys only wear them when leaving through the front door and out in the world. I shared Shelby almost dying from her choke collar getting caught in my wheels , after a trial, and only use the choke collar when training/showing obedience, and also have a healthy respect for martingale collars.
