I took Chelsea on Tuesday and the new vet said it's a severe skin allergy which also affects her ears. They put some slow dissolving tubes in her ears, gave her a medicated shampoo to use weekly (except for her head...that has to remain dry), antibiotic and Apoquel. I had been asking my old vet about food allergies and her flaky skin so I'm relieved to have it finally acknowledged. I called her groomer and asked if they could cut her way, way down, wash all but her head with the medicated shampoo and he said they would so I took her there Wednesday morning.
At the vet Tuesday, they took Chelsea behind the counter while I filled out paperwork, and she got to see lots of other dogs and two kitties that were there for adoption. She seemed to enjoy herself. She ate every morning this week (oh, and I have changed her food to Purina Pro Plan Sensitive skin and stomach Salmon flavor and told me all the chews I got for skin and coat and the vitamins are not worth much.)
She is so much happier...wagging her tail and eating in the morning!! I have yet to bathe her on my own, but I ordered a collapsable tub that should be here by Tuesday so I can follow up with the weekly soak in her shampoo.
