Krypto turned 6 months old last Saturday, and is still 23" at the shoulder.
A couple of weeks ago we actually found 7 baby teeth in a few days, so while I *think* that he's lost most of them, some of his big teeth are still pushing through or growing larger. (Even though it looks like he has a full mouthful of pretty new teeth.)
You may remember that the first time or two that he experienced rain, he was not going to do what he needed to, even if he held it all day - which he nearly did. But, now, even though he's not thrilled with driving rain on him, he has gotten over that...at least so far. I'd hate to say absolutely, and have him change his mind!
However, he still will not go near his old restroom spot. The one that he's used since he's been here. I am still putting my bets on either: something startled him there, maybe something during the big winds that we had, or a wild animal marked the spot.
I'm still amazed that his medium-sized nubby Gnawsome ball has so far survived his teething. Most of his toys have not fared as well. It could be destroyed tomorrow, but it has lasted nearly since we've had him. This is not a thick rubber ball. It is great for him because it squeaks, massages his sore gums, and rolls of course. It's 4 1/2". So, when I saw them on sale when the dog food was about to ship, I added one to the autoship (no shipping.) for such a time when his finally does wear out. We love this toy.
He's still a bit of a handful for the cats. Mamou is a grumpy old man who has taken to sleeping in the back part of the house where the dog can't go, even though he is undisturbed when on my feet, or next to my legs.
Uhura is a little more tolerant of him - which surprised me. She sleeps on either human for the night now - she doesn't play favorites, and she will lay right next to the d-o-g. She will let him lick her face and ears, and will sometimes lick him in return, but when he's too zealous, she either grabs him with claws and mouth, or leaves for another spot, or both.
Tux rolls over outside, inviting Krypto to come and play, or daring him to bother him; sometimes I'm not sure which.
We're only doing very simple training right now, until he's out of the stage that he's in. Until this very day, he's was nervous about certain things that didn't bother him previously, and don't seem to bother him today.
He was upset and barking at things like Mamou getting comfortable in the back room, and even sounds from the T.V., which he's never reacted to before.
The only thing that he's reacted to from last night on, was the sound of frogs. He's never heard them before, but he settled quickly.
Since we've had him, I've been teaching him that he may bark a little at strange things, but that once I tell him that it's okay, and that I'll handle it from here, he has to stop. He's learned that lesson very well, so it was surprising when he was *almost* ignoring me for a few days.
Things seem to be getting back to normal again now. Today, when the septic guy came in his truck, it woke us all up. But, we stayed in bed, and Krypto took that as his cue. His head was up listening, but he neither went to the door as he usually does when someone comes by, nor did he bark.
Besides very basic training, we are playing 'find it' games. One is where you leash your pup, and hide treats around the room/s. Put the scent on your hands and let him smell it, then take him off-leash and tell him to 'find it/them.' In the beginning you put them in the open, then start putting them under and in things out of view. It's good for working his mind and nose.
He's starting the GSD final coat shed, when they get their finished adult coats, so he's getting a lot of grooming practice.
I knew that he was dispatching bugs on the floor, but in the case of an earwig, I didn't know how. This week, we saw him simply take his paw and hit them with it. Ddil wishes that Frankie had those skills, lol!
He is careful with Jerusalem crickets, though. Even teeny tiny ones. I have to think that he tussled with one once, and got pinched by it.
Well, I'm sure that I've forgotten as much as I've written, after all of this time. Hopefully, the weather and internet will cooperate so that I can post updates more regularly.
