And, elk antlers are still saving my sanity. He doesn't teethe like he has been, but he still wants to play and chew, and it beats household items!
I don't know if I previously mentioned that he has decided to play with them by himself, if he's in the mood, and can throw them across the room? He still likes to hear them hit the hard floor sometimes, too. I have finally figured out that they sound like ivory when they hit.
Krypto is disappointed because Frankie will not play with him now, even when he's being well-behaved. It could be that he got too big but honestly, I think that Frankie has health issues, and just isn't in the mood.
Pretty much there's nothing, save the refrigerator and freezer, that he can see the top of...while standing on all four feet. At least he used to have to stand on his hind feet, which gave me a clue that he was up to something.
He's really getting sharp with his everyday commands. Such as his sit, which has been strong for months, but now he's doing it in a way that looks great - not sure why but he acts like he wants best in show! And, he now calmly waits to be released from it.
We actually didn't teach him that in all circumstances, but he picked it up from other 'sit' situations where he does wait, and has applied it to all sitting.
So now, when he sits for some reason, such as when you take off his leash, you can walk away, then turn around, and he's still sitting there! We finally came up with a release from sitting word.
His 'wait' is also very strong, and we've gotten rid of being pawed at by about 80%.
Also, he would previously leap into bed/Dh's chair before anyone could get in. No one wanted to sit on him, so now he waits at the side on the floor until everyone's settled, then is told to come up. Which, may be where he actually got the sit-wait thing from, because he's rewarded for waiting patiently, and has gotten very good at it.
On the other hand, when he gets into Dh's chair and falls asleep, and Dh finally comes in to sit down, he's not all that keen on moving!
He's pretty good at finding things now, and I've been searching for a new 'game' to teach him. I haven't tried it yet, but I've been thinking of scent-only games. Where he looks for things by an added scent, rather than using logic plus his nose to find things.
I have many essential oils, so have thought that I can use one that I really never use for the exercises. Then, move to human scents by having him find Dh by smelling a shirt or something. It may wait until after Christmas, but it's the one that I've been thinking about.
Krypto has done a 360 on going out in the rain! Not only will he go out in it, but now, if there's rain, he wants out because he enjoys licking wet plants and pipes. *rolling eyes* But, it's still better than him not wanting to go out in it!
His relationship with the cats is changing. He still wants to play with them, but we correct him, because a misplaced paw can injure one of them. So, while he still gets corrected now and then, it's much less often. Now, he mostly sticks with licking Uhura, and she is back to sleeping next to him on the bed about 1/2 the time. (The rest of the time she's next to me, or on her princess bed - that's what we call her little cat bed which looks like a chair, and is near the heater.)
Mamou, well, Mamou is not so quick to forgive his crazy puppy moments of the past. He will hiss at him if Krypto comes up when he is napping. He does hiss a little less when he walks by him, and Krypto can smell him if he keeps it brief, and doesn't stand over him.
We are doing a lot of spelling here lately. Krypto's vocabulary is growing by the day, and if he hears the words for something like w-a-t-e-r, going out, playing, or f-o-o-d, oh, sorry he wants it. So, we spell, lol! The funny thing is, that's where Ds is with Thyri! I'm telling you, they are going through the same stages...which makes Krypto the equivalent of 21 months old!
The one thing that I can't seem to talk him out of, is dropping those balls/other toys behind the chairs in the living room. You may remember that somehow he decided that it was fun, when playing his daily game of fetch (he has to have some sort of exercise.) to bring the ball back, but leap onto the chair, and drop it over the back.
Since he's not allowed in that part of the living room, a human has to retrieve it. This was at the same time that the baby learned to drop toys out of her playpen, then want them back...the same stages, I'm telling you...!
We tried stopping the game. As in, well you dropped it, now you can't play. It didn't work.
We tried getting all of his balls, and throwing one at a time, ignoring that he dropped them over. All that got us was having to collect them all.
And, we've tried intercepting him before he leaps to home plate...the chair...but guess what? He's become a master dodger! And, blocker. When you try to fake him out, so that you can get a ball past him, he can block and get it before it goes anywhere sometimes!
I'm going to try one more thing. Tonight, I'm going to put a large-sized, empty Chewy box on the chair, and see what happens.
It's actually funny to watch. He gets on the chair, and turns backwards - facing the back with his front paws on the back of the chair. Then he holds the ball, or other toy, over the edge (he's tall enough that he can see over the top while still sitting.), then he drops it over, hanging his head over to watch with great interest as it falls and hits the ground! I have to admit, it's difficult not to laugh at him, but I know that's counter-productive, so work hard not to. It's the look on his face.
Well, I can see that my baby boy is growing up...a little! As for now, everyone else is napping. Dh, dog, cats...definitely the time to catch up!
