When I took a break I called Charlie and he didn't come. So I went looking for him thinking he was sleeping. No Charlie.
I suddenly realized I'd left the backdoor open when cleaning out the vacuum base. As I turned the corned from the kitchen... I suddenly saw his back & legs at the bottom of the back porch stairs. What a shock.
As I opened the door I thought he'd come right in. But nope... he waited for me to call him in.
For a while now I have been leaving him laying down by the stairs both out front and out back.
I think he is long over due to being trusted by himself in the mornings. I hesitated because both the yards are along the road. If there are strays, people with and without dogs he goes into his barking mode.
I think if I am doing laundry then he can stay out while I am inside. Then when hanging or taking down the clothes I can play ball with him. Which is a real pain as he sometimes drops his ball onto the wet or dry clothes. 8-) He's getting better and NOT dropping them as often.
I am so proud of him - but I feel bad I have waited so long to allow him his alone outside time.
It's possible I may get a dog door for the back so he can come in when he wants. It does get very HOT and Rains are heavy here.
What a good boy Charlie is. He is a stupendous dog. He's my best friend.
Oh I think my neighbor with the chickens had a critter get inside and kill all of them. I didn't hear a rooster for a few days.. and this morning I heard no chickens and my neighbor was verbally very angry.
I know he never caged his chickens and has loss others to dogs and a hawk. But this time I think a wild critter got to them. My neighbor has been free-ranging his chickens.
Not a good thing in a neighborhood. There are lots of strays of all kinds dogs, cats and also lots of wild critters. Even though people have large properties this street here is one of the smaller acre properties, they are not ranches or farms.
I feel bad for him. His eggs are really good and he sells some at work, but gives his eggs free to our group of 5 homes. He and his sons are real nice folks.
