I usually stock up on pet food a little at a time, getting extra aside, just in case.
Once, I didn't have to buy Tilde dog food for 6 months when things were tighter than usual, because I had enough put aside.
Well, recently, I only have about 3 weeks extra these days, for Krypto.
Essentially, it takes about 2.something bags to get through the month. They don't make large bags, do any companies anymore?
So, I get 3 bags for the month, and have some left into the new month.
I made my usual order of his food, and just as I was expecting it, I got an email saying that they would have a delay with the food. Maybe it didn't come in as usual? I don't know, but we've been feeding him extra from the last bag for over 2 weeks.
I got an email yesterday saying that the food was mailed. Eegads, I have 2 servings left! I have never been this low before! Not since the days of buying bags at the store, anyway, which has been several years ago now.
I tracked the package, which was broken up into 3 packages. One only has a label created. One is in Kansas. And, one is in Stockton, California.
That last one sounds close, but sometimes they take the 'scenic' route!
I sure hope that it gets here soon!
I've been exploring my options.
A - I could buy a food that I don't like him to have from the store. More on that in a moment.
B - I could stretch his food with some rice, or chicken and rice.
The problems are:
We have tried giving him rice in the past, when he had loose stools. But, he doesn't think of it as food. He literally spit it out, and we finally threw it away. He might change his mind if he wanted more food, but I would not hold my breath.
Also, he has been trying to trying to talk us into sharing human food that he's never tried with him. We don't. I'm afraid that if we gave him something like chicken, that he will not eat his dog food easily after that. He already is starving one day, and not eating one of his meals another. Teens!
And, finally, getting a random food at the store might sound like a solution at first but...with my luck it will taste better than his food, and then we have the problem, once again, of him not wanting his food after eating something more tasty, flavored food.
Plus, remember what happened when we got him, and I planned to continue with the food that Tilde had been eating? He had a terrible reaction to it, and that's how I found his current food.
He had a similar problem licking out the empty cat food containers. We stopped it, and he was better by the next morning.
So, obviously there's something in some pet foods that he can't have, and he does not have the problem with his 6 ingredient lamb and rice food.
I'll do what I have to, if the food doesn't get here soon, but sheesh!
This really does show that we're only 1 bag of food away from having a problem, if the companies that make or deliver our pet foods have to put off sending them, or getting them to the store, for any reason.
I usually buy ahead, as I said, but it wasn't possible to go farther than my 2-3 week buffer recently.
So, I'm rooting for the Stockton package to get here asap!
