I put a little vinegar in the spray bottle that I used when Krypto was little, and chased the cats. I wanted a stream of water because he was large even then, rambunctious, and had no clue that he couldn't 'play' with the cats as he did his siblings.
I went with plain water, at first, but he just thought it was a game, and licked the water off of his fur, etc.
So, I added some vinegar - I didn't make it too strong, and used that, avoiding his eyes, of course.
That worked. As a byproduct, his fur got soft, lol!
I've not had to use it for months now. He got the idea of how to interact with the cats, mostly, and if he plays too much with them, I can get him to stop now with a verbal warning, or, at worst, just getting the squirt bottle. No need to actually squirt him.
We actually moved on to canned air when walking him. He wanted to bark at, and run toward, our herds of deer, but I didn't want him to for 3 reasons:
A - The deer don't need to be bothered. They are here once or more x's a day, and I don't want to deal with it.
B - I want him to be in better control than that.
C - When he wants to go, he can go suddenly, and Dh is on the other end of that leash, as you were when you first had that problem with the bad dog. That would, at some point, really get him hurt. It already hurt his shoulder, back, and wrist. So, I said, no more, that's it.
The air only makes a sharp, hiss sound, but he really backs off from what he's doing when he hears it.
And, because he's smart, it doesn't take long to make the connection and stop the behavior.
So, those are my big correctors...the water bottle which doesn't get squirt anymore, and the sound of the canned air product.
Wasp spray is nuts.
