I've seen people have to remove gators from inhabited areas. Sometimes they come up from nearby waterways, other times they come through things like culverts.
They, too, can be quite aggressive, and tend to eat pets such as dogs, and can attack humans. Sometimes, they can move through an area and there's not a problem, but they aren't easy to cohabitate with, especially when people go into their territory, such as near water, when they don't have enough prey, or when they decide that people and pets are easy prey.
I freaked out when I learned that some of them can climb certain trees, and drop down on prey from them. I couldn't believe it, but it's apparently true!
