The one time that they tried something Blue took after them and I was sure he would be killed but the coyote Mom had her 3 kids back off. That is when I stored my pee then made sure I ran some all along out fence line. After that Mom would cross my pasture but even when Blue and I were standing half way between the barn and the gate she never let her kids even glance in our direction. She was very respectful and I kept pouring my pee along the fence till I left. But I also if she was howling I would howl back and use my mother voice. Dang it that didn't let her know I was the mom her. I swear she respected me - I was totally impressed and Blue never chased them again for they never came near my chicken yard after that.
She would stately walk across our pasture - glancing at me and that was that. I was more afraid of the Mountain lion tracks in our dry creek - which wasn't always dry.
Good idea on the rooster. I am so sorry about the hen. Better idea for the hot wire on the fence. And yes, now that it knows how to get in.... you will have to mae it even stronger. Good luck repelling the critter.
Candle lit for your missing Hen. Poor little girl.
