Yes, sidewinder is the name of a snake. Well, they have Latin names also, like any critter, but when not using that, are called sidewinders. They are the ones that leave the unusual markings in the sand in the desert. And, they are, you're right, super fast, which was my memory, too.

In fact, looking through sites, quite a few call the sidewinder the fastest snake, by around 6 mph.
