What is great is that all my favorite birds are thick as thives. Even Crows - not my fave Grackles - are back. They are flying just over the talles trees and I have seen a few sitting on the power poles. I love their calls and look for them every morning and rarely hear or see them in the afternoon.
But the biggest suprise is that I finally got a really good look at what I thought was a small black bird. Instead it is a Purple Martin. But better yet the female is with him and she has a grayer head and chestwith a whitish belly. This is so awesome. I have never see them together - and jsut couldn't d the "gray" bird till seeing them together.
I am hoping the Road Runner come back this summer. It is a Greater Roadrunner and is quite big. I love watching run, stop, check the area, run, stop and so on all up and down the road.
Another bird that has not been around last year is the Woodpecker. I love trying to spy him when he is making all the noise in the trees. There have been two different kinds, or possibly three. So it is always exciting to find a different one each year.
The Vultures that are flying over head are the Black Headed Vultures. I have a series of photos of them sitting on the power poles in my yard, A' yard and others. Massive birds. Watching then circle around is fantastic.
The black capped Carolina Chickadee are back in numbers. The Carolina Wren are my faves and have found places under my house to live and in my neighbors also. The 3rd is a Bewick's Wren - not as many as the other two.
The two Black-crested and Tufted Titmouse are both here is masses. Plum they are never called Titmice. LOL Just Titmouse.
I've seen the Red-taied Hawk faiy often but so far it hasn't grabbed any small birds that I've seen. I think I saw a Cooper's Hawk flying around over the house. It's smaller then the Red-tailed Hawk which I saw fly down my drveway after one of the Sparrows w- which it caught. Oh my heart hurt. So sad.
The Northern Cardinals are here in mass still. The Blue Jays have been stealing peanuts from all three jugs I have out for the Squirrels.
I haven't been sitting on the porches yet so and probably unaware of the birds that have arrive.
Though the yard is full of bird song which gives no end of pleaseure.
The Squirrels are going "nuts" gathering from all the jugs. Theya re chasing each other around to have as many as possible for themselves.
It's been lovely afternoons here. But the sky is cloudy and I was only able to see a few of the planets that had lined up this past weekend. It's been months since I've had a chance to photo any celestial events. 8-( This is making it almost 2.5 years during which I have had 90% of the nights cloudy.
Oh the lake is the lowest it has ever been in recorded history. Even with what little rain we have gotten the lake has gained nothing. The trees - most of them have new leaves of pale green everywhere - are still not as leafed out as they were two years ago. Also some of them have leaves falling then new ones growing then falliing off 2 or 3 times. They seem to be doing better now. Usually they are fulled leafed by now. Instead the wildflowers are everywhere.
OK I have to walk Charlie. He started not jumping again. He is not limping but he won't jump up or down anywhere that is over 1 foot in height. And he always has to sorta have a running start by a few steps to do even that.
Well its a tad cool. Will be in 80's this afternoon but lots of rain due the rest of the week and maybe later.
Hope Spring arrives where you live. With the rain everynight I have run out of old towels and rags to have by the doors.
Have a good week weather wise.
