Well, the problem is that the vet wants her there monthly to get the prescription. With the dog's painful joints, etc. she's starting to strongly object to getting into the car, making the drive, getting out of the car, being examined, then reverse the whole trip. The prescription hasn't changed in years.
Places like Chewy's have pharmacies, and with a vet's prescription, will mail the meds to you. My thought is that she won't be with them to summer. Letting them all skip the stress and trauma of the visit - which also costs more, of course, for the short amount of time she has left, until she goes for the last time, would be a kindness. She's perfectly happy lying on her bed.
