Plus a few of the first Rain Flowers are gone but I counted 96 Rain flowers altogether this afternoon. The dead ones the petals fell off but there is a buldgy growth in the middle of theose stalks which is where they are producing seeds for new Rain flowers. The buldge pops or I pop a few myself and spread them all over the front and back yard.
The local HAWK is flying around claiming it's territory. It's the small Red TAil with the larger Hawk ocassionally chasing it closer to the ground - even in my driveway. The last time I saw this I was standing on my front porch and I startled as the smalled Red Tail was racing as fast as it could not far behind it. It was brought to my mind as Charlie and I were in the side yard and Charlie was checking out down the hill. He walked out first and as I did I realized a large Hawk flew out of the one of the Juniper trees and a smaller look alike Hawk was right behind it. Momma giving feeding lessons perhaps, as there were a number of squirrels doing a danger alert. Plus some of the wild birds were also sounding the alarm as the Hawks flew into the woods next to my neighbors property. I still am not sure what the smaller Hawk is, maybe a Coopers Hawk only 16 - 17 inches and the big one is the Red-tailed hawk for sure. Its 19 inches long and 49 to 50 inches wings span. Big bird.
Haven't seen the Black Vultures lately. Just two sitting on my power pole after the last good sized rain.. a few weeks ago. They were drying their wings in the sun shine. The love watching me as much apparently as much as I love watching them. I wander beneath the power poles and they spread their wings and watch me. I love it. I can stand at the base of the poles and take photos. I almos think they are posing. Wings spread wide or curled towards their breast. Awesome pictures. They do not care as I have been doing that every year when after any rain. Not so much the last two years though.
So that's it for todays nature post. 8-)
