a few weeks ago I startd putting Charlie Halter on him so I could have 2 leashes to hold on too. It's been an interesting two weeks. I have been dragged and other unpleasent earth contacts. But in the last few days Charlie has changed. If I pick up his halter he will walk over and put his head through the collar, wait for me to grab the belt that goes underneath him and then slip the clasp together. He stands perfectly still. He may move then towards the door but will return so I can clip the two leashes on to the halter. He is not the only one learning how to deal with this situation. Plem mentioned that if her dog run she lets the leash slide out of her hand. I have begun to to do the same. It works like a charm as if I let Charlie have a bit of a run first thing he then does his business sooner. Then I walk him slowly around making sure if I see a dog or person I take him inside immediately. Or walk around the back of the house. When we walk during the day I continue the off and on & letting the leashes drag on his back.... unless I see a dog or chicken etc I can get him to turn away and walk some where else. Now that school is out Charlie may have problems with all the kids etc. It willbe a challenge for both of us. Plum thanks for the hint about the leash. Duh! So far so good. Hopefully he will get better the longer we walk. |
