She was, and still is, lying with me with her head on me, which puts her head right in front of my computer. I was reading the local news before putting my computer away to do some work. One story was about a mountain lion caught on camera on someone's porch, and there was a video, maybe 20 seconds only.
So, I clicked play, and the mountain lion was growling and making noise.
Uhura whipped up her head and bunched her muscles, ready to run. I reassured her and she stayed (the video was off.) where she was, then, eventually went back to sleep.
I hadn't realized that she would hear anything - my cameras don't record sound - or that, when it started that she would react.
Thinking now, I imagine that over her lifetime she's had close contact with almost every type of wild animal. Remember, the first 2 years of her life she was 100% on her own, a true feral. (Most people would find that difficult to tell now that she's 10ish, and can be such a lop with us. Not that she hangs around to socialize with strangers - with the exception of that one painter. Remember how she wove through his legs and chortled at him? We were all shocked by that.)
This video was from north of me, but we do have large cats here, such as bobcats and mountain lions.
Anyway, she recognized the sound immediately, and I felt terrible for startling/scaring her.
