Wildlife photographer, Ann Constantino, captured a Grasshopper Sparrow’s unique bird song in S. Humboldt. Named for its unique song that is akin to the buzz of a grasshopper, the small sparrow is primarily found in the central and eastern portions of the U.S. and in South America. Breeding is uncommon in the western United States but does occur. Constantino stated, “The most glamorous bird at SoHum Park, and one I was so happy to see there yesterday. It’s a species that has been in trouble, but that we are lucky enough to have a summer breeding population of at the park.” |
