Recently, we were talking about the number of deer hit on highways, and I said that if a deer jumps out, expect there to be more coming, and slow down or stop gently if you can.
Well, this is what I mean. There's not much cover at the side of this road, so you can see them, and they aren't far from the herd, so there are actually more of them.
What happens at this time of year with these elk, is that they rut, and when they do the adult males chase the juvenile males from the herd. The young males don't go far, though.
