When I came back out I walked under the biggest Oak by my bedroom and the Bird name popped up right away.
It was a huge flock of Grackles. As I walked under the Oak they began to fly away in small groups.
I was thrilled as none had been around since just as the drought began almost 4 years ago.
These and the Crows are my fave birds. Well Hawks, Vultures and Eagles also along with all the small birds that live here. Lots of types.
The crows and Vultures are the main ones that have stuck around.
Anyway I was able to enjoy their metalic sounds. What a thrill that they are back in force. They used to fly in huge flocks and hang out in towns to pick up food stuff people drop on the ground.
This was a huge flock. I can't wait to see if they hang out in the town I go to and a few will hopefully live around here.
The Hawk calls, the Crows the Woodhouse's Scrub Jay - that fly overhead every morning on their way to town and call, plus all the other birds that actually live here as I feed them... I am thrilled that they may be back in large flocks.
I have missed them when I have had a chance to have coffee on the front or back porches.
If you look them up on the internet their name is
Great-tailed Grackle. I hope you check them and their song out. It's a wonderful sound. Especially if they are in a huge FLOCK!
Hope you check them out.
