On the 'slow going' list, she sometimes freezes and won't go inside or out, etc.
Also, sometimes while out in the little run without a leash, she will avoid Dh. That's not good if she ever got out again. And, it's got to be automatic from her abuse, as she really likes Dh.
In the 'it's going great' column:
She can go into the run with, or without, a leash. Either way she sits waiting at the door.
Now, we can open the door with both dogs sitting at it, and they will wait until told to go. Some days you have to make a noise to remind them to wait, but overall it's good, and I really want them to wait at the door, rather than rushing out when it opens.
Her weight is good still, and she still gets low cal treats, since her girlish figure is in danger. She loves to eat; it's the highlight of her day. If you want to see her light up, offer her something - anything! I know that the roots of her food obsession come from not getting enough food early on, and again when she had worms - when we got her - but her love language is definitely snacks or meals now!
She barks at Ds's car for some reason, though she acts indifferent towards him when he comes in to see her.
When she's scared/triggered by things being shaken out she jumps up and barks a serious bark, but other than that, she mumbles/talks when Dh comes in, or when she's excited that it's morning, and breakfast is imminent.
I still have to be careful about saying her name, as she's here like a shot. She never ignores me saying her name or calling her. But, until I heal, I'm being careful so that she doesn't end up in my lap!
She loves having Krypto to wrestle with. The dog that was often at her old home was a huge husky who obviously wasn't very nice to her. I think that he may have eaten her food, and also got in serious fights with hers...she has a couple of scars from him.
While she's basically a quiet dog, she has come out of her shell a little this past week. She actually danced on Dh's foot once - oops - but that's an improvement because she normally just stands and leans into you for all of her scratches and pets.
Speaking of which, she has decided that she loves petting. Dh tells her what velvety ears she has, then pets them, and she eats it up.
Her new ID tag looks good. I think that it suits her, being in the shape of a star, and being multi-colored metal. It's girly without overdoing it. Which is one of the nicknames that she comes to: Girly-girl. I originally said it so as not to alert the dogs to who I was talking about. I just called them by gender...the boy dog, and the girl dog. Well, she learned that girly-girl meant her somehow!
So, Hira is doing well overall. I didn't expect her to forget her fears very soon, if ever, but the less that she reacts, the better I feel.
She really looks to Krypto for guidance in everything. She thinks that the moon rises and sets with him. Which is good, because I think that she really would be depressed without another dog here.
Anyway, I don't know if she turned 5 or 6, but she enjoyed birthday treats and extra attention!
