The drifting grains of sand again
Just watch as time goes by
The monoliths of redrock,
Silhouette against the sky.
Reflecting time and color
While shaping with the winds
A sculpture worth a ransom
God carved since time begins.
The coves and arches starkly pose
Along the riversides
The Colorado rolls along
Turmoil beneath it hides.
The Canyon echos sounds of song
As dusk begins to fall
The singing lady sits astride
A horse by yonder wall.
Shadows descend, then lengthen out
When she begins to sing
The yodel notes come back to her
And through the canyons ring.
As darkness falls, she heads back down
Her horse steps 'round the stones
Sage brush lives on those trails
And sometimes even bones.
She'll sing again when dusk is near
And we can hear her share.
In olden days, in olden ways
Her spirit lingers there.
